All in all, I am still quite green… and keen. I’ve also been producing and engineering my own tracks, as well as working back and forth with some producer/engineer friends-to share knowledge and experience. For several years now, I’ve been working on both of these factors: I have an excellent, professional pair of headphones and two average sets of speakers that I have become quite familiar with. Next, one must get quite geeky with audio engineering and tools, and those tools have been advancing quite a bit-and becoming more and more accessible-in the past decade. In other words, one must create a solid foundation for critically listening to music. What one must control is the listening environment, and in that environment one must listen to a lot of music. Over time, I learned that one must have control. I was just getting a taste of the experience. However, it was pretty gung-ho: I borrowed some amazing speakers and an amp from my good friend Declan and sat down for an afternoon in a quiet, sound-baffled space for an afternoon to listen and tweak. I mastered my first EP in 2010 or 2011 and it was mostly an exercise of listening for problems and rectifying them. I’ve just started a portfolio to show songs or albums that I’ve mastered it’s really just a placeholder as I currently only have one work to show.
